PayPal Experiences

DEUNA supports three PayPal integration experiences. They all process the same PayPal products (PayPal Vaulting, PayPal Pay Later, and Venmo); what changes is where the PayPal entry point and its disclaimer are rendered, and how much of the experience is owned by the merchant versus DEUNA.

Each experience supports the same two user flows:

• New / Guest user — the shopper has no vaulted PayPal account with the merchant and authenticates with PayPal during the purchase.
• Registered user / Vaulting — the shopper has a previously vaulted PayPal agreement and pays without re-authenticating with PayPal.

1. Merchant's Native Design Express

The merchant displays the PayPal disclaimer directly within their interface, using their own content and styles. The DEUNA flow is triggered only when the user clicks the PayPal button.

Ownership

• The merchant renders the PayPal button and the disclaimer with their own copy and design system.
• DEUNA is only invoked at click time and handles order creation, authorization, and vaulting.

When to use it

• The merchant needs full control over the checkout look and feel.
• The merchant wants PayPal exposed as early as possible in the purchase funnel (for example, from the product or cart page).
• ConsiderationsThe merchant is responsible for keeping the PayPal disclaimer aligned with PayPal's branding and compliance requirements.

Flow PayPal — New / Guest user

1. The shopper selects the PayPal button rendered by the merchant.

1. DEUNA creates the order and starts the PayPal flow.
2. The shopper signs in to PayPal and approves the payment.
3. The shopper returns to the merchant interface and DEUNA confirms the result.

Flow PayPal — Registered user / Vaulting

1. The shopper selects the PayPal button rendered by the merchant.
2. DEUNA identifies the shopper and retrieves the vaulted PayPal agreement.
3. The payment is processed without a new PayPal authentication.
4. DEUNA confirms the result in the merchant interface.

2. DEUNA Widget in Modal No Express

The DEUNA Payment Widget opens in a modal over the merchant's interface. All content, disclaimers, and the payment experience are fully managed by DEUNA.

Ownership

• DEUNA renders the full payment experience, including the PayPal entry point and disclaimer.
• The merchant only opens the widget.

When to use it

• Fastest integration path — no PayPal-specific front-end work on the merchant side.
• The merchant wants DEUNA to keep the experience up to date as PayPal requirements change.
• Considerations: Styling is limited to the DEUNA widget customization options.

Flow PayPal — New / Guest user

1. The shopper opens checkout and the DEUNA widget is displayed in a modal.
2. The shopper selects PayPal from the available payment methods.
3. The shopper signs in to PayPal and approves the payment.
4. The shopper returns to the DEUNA modal and the result is confirmed.

Flow PayPal — Registered user / Vaulting

1. The shopper opens checkout and the DEUNA widget is displayed in a modal.
2. The vaulted PayPal account is shown as a saved payment method.
3. The shopper confirms the payment without a new PayPal authentication.
4. DEUNA confirms the result in the modal.

3. Embedded Widget + PayPal Modal Two Steps

The DEUNA Widget is embedded within the merchant's interface. When the user clicks the PayPal button, the PayPal flow continues in a modal.

Ownership

• DEUNA renders the payment method list and the PayPal disclaimer inside the embedded widget.
• The merchant controls the surrounding page layout.

When to use it

• The merchant wants a single-page checkout without a full overlay, while still delegating the PayPal experience to DEUNA.
• Considerations: The experience takes two steps: selection inside the embedded widget, then approval in the PayPal modal.

Flow PayPal — New / Guest user

1. The shopper sees the DEUNA widget embedded in the merchant checkout.
2. The shopper selects the PayPal button inside the widget.
3. The PayPal flow continues in a modal, where the shopper signs in and approves the payment.
4. The modal closes and the embedded widget confirms the result.

Flow PayPal — Registered user / Vaulting

1. The shopper sees the DEUNA widget embedded in the merchant checkout.
2. The vaulted PayPal account is shown as a saved payment method.
3. The shopper confirms the payment without a new PayPal authentication.
4. The embedded widget confirms the result.
